Curriculum
Our school district has adopted the Savvas enVision Math Series which is a balance of inquiry based and traditional math lessons. I would always recommend your continue practicing their addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division facts, as fact fluency has a huge impact on becoming proficient with the math concepts throughout the year.
Along with the Houghton Mifflin reading series, Into Reading, our reading program will also incorporate a variety of other activities such as literature circles, literature units, author studies, and other interactive activities.
Another part of our reading program is Accelerated Reading (AR). Each month the students will set a personal goal for themselves that they are expected to achieve by the end of the month. |
We will be studying the different regions of the United States and learning about each state and their capitals. Along with that, we will be studying South Dakota history.
Our science includes a hands-on curriculum that engages students in discussion and inquiry.
As part of our reading curriculum, we have writing workshop sessions to work on our writing process. Throughout the year we will be involved in a number of different writing activities to develop writing informational text, fictional narrative text, and supported opinion text.
